AEG Partnership with Eventim?

altWith their partnership with Ticketmaster about to expire, Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG), owner of Staples Center in Los Angeles and London’s O2 arena, as well as being Ticketmaster's largest client, is said to be exploring a potential relationship with European leader CTS Eventim AG - the German based primary ticketing agency.

Prior to Livenation's announcement of the Ticketmaster merger, Live Nation introduced a competing ticketing system with CTS Eventim AG, the leader in Europe.

"If Live Nation walks away from that deal as a result of the merger, AEG could partner with CTS," said antitrust attorney for Doyle Barlow & Mazard in Washington Andre Barlow in a recent Bloomberg interview.

AEG also may build its own for $30 million or more and become another player in the primary ticketing landscape. Or even cut a deal with another ticketing operation such as Veritix or Tickets.com.

However, before moving ahead, rumour has it that AEG is apparently going to wait to see whether the U.S. Justice Department approves the Ticketmaster-Live Nation merger. AEG were the organizers of Michael Jackson’s comeback tour and allegedly its plans may alter the ticketing market and affect how government views the merger.

In the U.K. government regulators have ruled against the merger last month stating it would “severely inhibit” a new ticketing competitor in the U.K. market. Word on the street has it that this was a trigger in Ticketmaster's possible move to dump Ticketsnow - their secondary ticketing platform into the market.

AEG has organized tours for Prince, Paul McCartney, Bon Jovi, and Justin Timberlake, and sold 5.5 million concert tickets worldwide this year through June 30, according to Pollstar while Live Nation sold 12.9 million and a Live Nation-Ticketmaster combination might mean AEG’s biggest rival may have access to key intelligence used to create bids in order to win touring business.

The entire ticketing industry is hinging on the sale - globally... as there will be a paradigm shift either way with new partnerships and deals unfolding both in Europe and the USA.
