The second stage for the European Football Championship 2012 is opened in Kharkiv, Ukraine

altThe second stage for the next European Football Championship opened in Kharkiv on Saturday, December 5th. The key investor in the Metalist Stadium, Oleksandr Yaroslavskiy, who is chairman of FC Metalist, owner of the DCH Group and coordinator of preparations for Kharkiv Euro-2012, spoke at the opening ceremony to the delight of many Football fans in Ukraine and abroad. Ukraine and Poland are celebrating the championships, and have the two states required for the games in 2012... both in Ukraine.

The main Ukrainian representatives attended the opening ceremony for the new Metalist Stadium, a 40000 seat that meets the high standards of UEFA and a Ukrainian League match between FC Metalist FC and Obolon added a true spirit football at the ceremony. The opening of the stadium marks a milestone in Ukraine's preparations for the European Football Championships. After inauguration of a stadium in Donetsk earlier this year, the Metalist Stadium in Kharkiv was good news for Ukrainians and UEFA representatives.

"Ukraine's preparations for Euro-2012 are to rally our country, our people and all who see this as an opportunity to demonstrate all that Ukraine offers, "said Ukrainian Premier Yulia Tymoshenko.

The director of Euro-2012 Martin Kallen, who participated in the ceremony, Oleksandr Yaroslavskiy - rewarded with a commemorative plaque of the UEFA celebrate the opening of the stadium. The total capital expenditure for the refurbishment of the stadium exceeded $70 million, which were largely covered by Yaroslavskiy DCH Group.

One of the richest Ukrainians and an ardent football fan, Yaroslavskiy said at the opening:

"For all of Ukraine, this is a sign that this country is fully ready to hold Euro-2012 games ... In the future, people who want to feel like they are in Europe will visit Kharkiv. Here you can find Vienna and London and Paris."

Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko also attended the ceremony Metalist Stadium opening. He was quoted earlier in Rzeczpospolita, a Polish newspaper, saying:

"Michel Platini and executive committee UEFA have, in my opinion, followed a brilliant policy, appropriate and modern... by integrating all countries of Europe and bringing this sport East. For us, this is one of the components of our Integration in Europe ."
