ASTA implicated in Olympics 2012 scam?
altThe credibility of the Association of Secondary Ticket Agents (ASTA) is in doubt following the discovery that one of its members, which shares the same address, is illegally advertising tickets for the London 2012 Olympics.

Under the London Olympics Act 2006, it‘s a criminal offence in the UK to offer for sale tickets for the London 2012 Olympics unless authorised to do so. In fact, tickets are not due to go on sale until 2011 and will then only be available through very limited outlets. Yet the secondary ticket website showtimetickets.com has a large array of Olympics 2012 events tickets advertised and is asking potential customers to register their interest.

On further investigation, by the BBC Radio 4 consumer affairs programme, “You and Yours”, showtimetickets.com was found to have the same London address as the UK ticket agent regulatory body, ASTA.  ASTA and Showtimetickets.com were unavailable for comment.

Paul Deighton, the Chief Executive of the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (LOCOG) has voiced his committment to crack down on rogue sites offering London Olympics tickets.  But following this latest discovery there is concern that LOCOG are already behind in tackling the issue.
