Poor Ticket Sales Bedevil Scottish Festival Industry
altPoor ticket sales and other problems have put paid to a number of major Scottish events due to take place over the coming months. Connect, The Outsider, Big in Falkirk, Live at Loch Lomond and EH1 have all been shelved with bleak prospects for new festivals being launched.

Promoters say there was not enough demand for the growing number of events staged in recent years. They blame the credit crunch, bad weather and cut backs in public spending.

Some festivals, such as Connect, held in 2007 and 2008 in the grounds of Inverary Castle,  Argyll, have been cancelled despite having secured public funds. In its final year, Connect is estimated to have contributed almost £1.5million to the local economy.

But a number of established festivals will still go ahead. Those include T in the Park at Kinross, Wickerman in Dumfries and Galloway, Belladrum, RockNess and Ullapool's Loopallu event.
