Germany's Elvis throws in the towel after 55 years in showbiz
altGerman singer and actor Peter Kraus is retiring after 55 years in showbiz. Kraus first burst onto the music scene in the 1950s where he was marketed as a German Elvis copy.

Some of his hits include Wenn Teenagers Träumen (when teenagers dream), Hula Baby and the legendary Sugar Baby. While Kraus was originally heavily influenced by his American counterpart, he soon broke the mould and developed his own popular style. In the first four years after his debut, he scored 36 hits, selling more than twelve million records and earning him a solid fan base of teenage admirers.

Ticket sales for the star's concerts remained top sellers throughout his career. In 2009 Kraus played to thousands of fans in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and showed an incredible level of fitness for a man of 70.

So after 55 years in the limelight, what beckons next? The excitement is only just beginning for Kraus who is planning a retirement of globe trotting adventures with his wife.
