Date set for first 2012 Olympics ticket sales

altOlympics 2012 tickets will be available from the start of next year, according to the London Standard. But millions of would-be ticket-holders will be able to register online for their preferred events in March, after the Winter Olympics.

However registering does not guarantee a ticket, only an alert from the organising committee, Locog, when tickets go on sale next year.

Next year, the public will be able to apply for tickets through a ballot system which will account for up to 85 per cent of the 9.2 million tickets. There will be no preferential treatment for Londoners.

Locog will reveal its pricing policy towards the end of this year. It says it’s committed to selling a large number of “affordable” tickets but may not now be able to deliver a pledge to sell 4.3 million at under £20. The pledge was originally meant to include 700,000 cheap tickets for baseball and softball but these are now no longer Olympic sports.
