| Ticketmaster Live Nation Merger Means Belgium's Live Nation now Secondary Ticket Sellers by Proxy |
|
Live Nation Belgium, owner of Rock Werchter (one of Europe's largest festivals), and Telenet Group Holding NV (television, Internet and telephony), owned by Liberty Media (who own 15% but just made a bid for 34.9 percent of Live Nation Entertainment), are now married with of the world's largest entertainment consortium recently formed with the merger of concert giant US-based Live Nation and Ticketmaster into newly coined Live Nation Entertainment - which is headquartered in California, USA. The Belgian arm of Live Nation, led by Herman Schueremans, who organizes a wide array of Belgian rock and pop concerts, has been vehement in his battle with the secondary ticketing market in Belgium for a number of years. But now, as Mojo Concerts is confronted with in The Netherlands, they are faced with the reality that they are now in the secondary ticketing business due to new ownership. The newly formed Live Nation Entertainment had to give concessions in order to be formed, but Ticketmaster was not required to unload their profitable, and highly controversial secondary ticketing platforms Ticketsnow, Ticketexchange and GETMEIN! UK Last year the Belgian offices of Live Nation, Tele Ticket and politician and MP Vincent Van Quickenborne joined hands to push an anti-secondary ticket market legislation proposal through parliament. In 2009, a bill to 'ban by selling tickets at inflated prices " was presented in Belgium. It was signed by William-Frederick Schiltz (VLD), Sofie Staelraeve (Open VLD), Ludo Van Campenhout (Open VLD), Liesbeth Vander Auwera (CD & V), Jef Van den Bergh (CD & V), Dalila Douifi (Spa.a) Tinne and Vanderstraeten (Groen). Very similar to proposed legislation in The Netherlands, the resale of event tickets will still be allowed but it must be no higher than 10% of the original price on the ticket. The proposed law would also require that the original price on the ticket is stated. Moreover, it prohibits the offering of tickets for resale prior to the start of the original sale.Related Articles: Online ticket retailer Seatwave beats postal strike through HMV partnership Seatwave and UK music retailer, HMV, have joined up with Seatwave in launching an in-store music ticket box office.
