At the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, organisers sold 95 per cent of the 1.6 million tickets available and the 2008 Summer Games in Beijing sold almost 96 per cent of 6.8 million tickets. Tickets to the men’s gold-medal hockey game are most in demand, followed by the men’s snowboard finals and women’s figure skating, said Christian Anderson, spokesman for US ticket search engine, Fan Snap. The first event of the 21st Winter Olympics is the preliminary round of the men’s ski jumping in Whistler, British Columbia, followed by the opening ceremony in Vancouver, which starts at 6pm local time, 2am GMT.
