Eventim Buys Berlin’s Tempodrom Venue

CTS Eventim, Europe's largest ticketer and promoter, has acquired Berlin's distinctive Tempodrom venue, according to the German news programme, “Abendschau”. The Temprodrom played host to 230 events last year, but, up to now, no one has been interested in acquiring the huge tent shaped venue and it was about to be auctioned.

The Tempodrom was almost not built as construction costs went through the roof and bankrupted the venture in 2004. The new development cost 33 Million Euro instead of the planned 15 Million. The miscalculation caused a huge national scandal. Regional chairman, and Senator for Urban Development, Peter Strieder, who was for years the project's biggest supporter,  resigned from his offices because of the scandal.

But, against the odds, the Temprodrom has turned out to be a big success. Profrits were around 370.000 Euro last year.
