| Spanish Football Liga Seeks Tax Cut to Boost Ticket Sales |

According to LFP president Jose Luis Astiazaran: "It must be acknowledged that the future of Spanish football could be at risk if we do not take the necessary steps. It would be a welcome measure which would contribute to promoting sports as well as satisfying the requirements of fiscal equality and neutrality. Let's find ways that help in this crisis situation." But the Spanish government is not expected to sympathize with the football league. A government sports council spokesperson said: "There is no concrete stance yet and we'll have to wait for the new law." During his press conference Astiazaran also spoke about how many La Liga clubs wanted a change in television rights. They want a system in line with other European leagues as opposed to the current one that allows Real Madrid and Barcelona to get the bulk of the revenue. The Spanish football league (LFP) has asked the government to cut taxes on football tickets in an attempt to combat the current tough economic conditions. La Liga feels that the value-added tax (VAT) rate of 7 percent applied to tickets for amusement parks, theatres and cinemas should also be levied on football tickets. Currently the rate is 16 percent.
