Americans Top World Cup Ticket Sales

Americans are the buying the most tickets for the FIFA 2010 World Cup with 107,576 sold to the public in the United States, Local Organizing Committee head executive Farouk Seedat said on Tuesday.

The UK public comes second with 63,835 tickets sold, followed by Germany with 29,733 and Australia with 26,488.

Seedat said that local demand has now outstripped overseas buying, with a total of 164,193 tickets bought by South Africans.

But ticket sales in neighbouring states of Mozambique and Botswana are tiny at 1474 and 1257 respectively.

A total of 2.1 million tickets have been sold for FIFA 2010.

April 15th sees the beginning of sales phase five where tickets will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
