Secondary Ticket Market Squeeze at Wimbledon Crumbles
The UK Government crackdown planned last year on the secondary ticket market for Wimbledon has been dumped, according to the British press today. Wimbledon organizers, the All England Club, which runs the famous tennis tournament was hoping to put a halt to trading in the secondary ticket market and cut out the unauthorised internet brokers and stadium scalpers, but they will still be able to continue speculating and profiting from the event.
British Parliament was looking at legislation similar to the way UK football tickets are tightly controlled, but nixed the idea. Politicians had been considering banning the resale of tickets for events deemed to be of “outstanding national significance." But the plan was dropped as "confusing and unworkable."

The secondary ticket market will, however, continue to be illegal for football matches and the London 2012 Olympics

“It is deeply disappointing that the Government has turned away a golden opportunity to introduce an effective regulatory solution to the problem of unauthorized secondary ticketing,” read a statement from the All England Club.
