More Festivals to attract more Visitors to former Mining Facility, Ferropolis in Germany

The organisers of both music festivals “Melt!” and “Splash” have announced to expand their engagement in Ferropolis, which is a former mining facility in Germany. A spokesperson of the venue said that soon more artist performances, more festivals and events will take place in Ferropolis in order to get more people interested.

Organisers say they have reached an agreement with the operating company of Ferropolis. In May there will be a huge three day Spring Festival for families. Europe’s biggest Indie-Musicfestival “Melt!” and the Hip Hop Festival “splash!” in the summer will both have a preparty and a cultural side programm.

Also the organisers want to launch an eco-offensive for festivals. The visitor limit will not be increased. The festival organiser announced that they want to reduce the CO2 output and the amount of trash. They want to become the most environmental friendly festival. Therefore they ask their visitors to travel overnight to the festival per sleep-train, so they don’t have to sleep at the festival itself. One train should fit 400 to 600 people.

For festival season 2010 bands like Massive Attack, Tocotronic, Gentlemen, Kool Savas and Gerhard Schöne are slated to perform at Ferropolis in Gräfenhainichen.
