Addressing the South African legislature yesterday, the Local Organising Committee’s Greg Fredericks said: “We are approaching 90 per cent of ticket sales for the World Cup. Fifa’s ticketing sub-committee chairperson Horst Schmidt added: “We have crossed an important line with 2.5 million tickets out of 2.85 million sold.” Schmidt said about 1.5million tickets were sold to South Africans, while the rest went to international fans. But the opening match, the first-round match between Brazil and Portugal, the two semifinals and the final are all sold out.
