The Hills are Alive with the Sound of... People Heading for the Exit

Angry fans were demanding a refund yesterday, claiming Julie Andrews’ comeback show on Saturday night was a "rip-off" because she did not sing, leaving it to a backing group.

In the first half of the show, five vocalists performed hit songs from film musicals as Dame Julie looked on. After the break she narrated an adaptation of a children's book she had co-written with her daughter.

Hundreds walked out of the Sound of Music star’s show at London's O2 Arena and queued to demand refunds. Graham Well, of Dartford, Kent, spent £420 on five tickets for his family but walked out at the interval. He told UK paper, The Mirror:

"I feel totally robbed and I would like the ticket price back. I saw at least 2,000 people walking out. It became like a second-rate pantomime."

But organisers AEG said last night:

"The show started and finished with a standing ovation. That speaks for itself."

Andrews has not appeared on a British stage for 30 years and has rarely performed since surgeons removed growths from her vocal cords in 1997.
