Council Orders ‘Britain’s Worst Promoter’ to Make Refunds or Face Jail

A festival organiser who’s been dubbed “Britain’s worst concert promoter” in the British press may face jail if he doesn’t start giving refunds for cancelled shows.

Brian Davies, who heads New Dawn Events, was pursued by Scotland’s Moray Council following scores of complaints from fans left out of pocket after events such as the Memories of Woodstock Festival --featuring Uriah Heap, Jethro Tull and Barclay James Harvest --were cancelled at short notice.

Another three-day event at Crathes Castle, on Deeside and a similar event in Plymouth, Devon were also cancelled. Davies claimed the events were victims of the global recession.

Although ticket holders will not get their money back, as Davies has claimed he is insolvent, he faces up to two years in jail if he doesn’t refund future customers. Speaking to the Express, Davies was defiant:

“This order will not affect my events in the future. We are looking forward to Mayfest next month.I lost nearly £100,000 after we had to cancel Memories of Woodstock. I have tried to refund every person who has been in touch with me.”

Mayfest is due to take place from May 21-23 at Uttoxeter Racecourse, near Shrewsbury Staffordshire. A number of acts are confirmed including two of the three headliners - Levellers, and Donovan. Also confirmed are The Blues Band, Barbara Disckson, Henry Priestman, 3 Daft Monkeys and Leatherat.
