World Cup Tickets Nearly Sold Out
altFIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke has noted that  97 per cent of the some three million tickets that originally went on sale for the World Cup have now been sold.  “This is the most successful ticketing since the 1994 World Cup staged in the US,” Valcke said to the press in South Africa. LOC chairperson Irvin Khoza added, “I am confident that we have created history. "We have delivered what we promised." “(Fifa president) Sepp Blatter is satisfied with the level of preparation with us as South Africa, Africa and as a people.”

LOC chief executive Danny Jordaan said: “Everything from the stadiums to infrastructure is ready, and when South Africans come together to celebrate the event it will be an intense and emotional experience. Doubters have become believers. We are looking forward to the best World Cup event ever. It was not a mistake for Fifa to give us the World Cup.”

Valcke said: “We do not have anything else to do. We just have to sit back and enjoy the 32 days.” He said they were also considering opening the gates at Soccer City early on June 11 to ensure there was no congestion on the roads for the opening ceremony. He said that after the Nedbank Cup final last month at Soccer City, they had held talks with stakeholders to ensure that traffic would not be a problem. “ South Africans arrive late at the stadiums. They must try and get to the stadiums early,” Valcke said. “We are in talks to try and open the gates at 10am on the day of the opening match.”
