Proof: Katy Perry Sells her Own Front Row Seats on Secondary Ticket Market

altThe Smoking Gun website uncovered one of the most ridiculous riders (agent-promoter artist stipulations) perhaps ever seen publically recently, which, interestingly, also noted that not only the first ten rows were reserved for Katy Perry to sell on the secondary ticket market - but also possibly more tickets.

While this practice is long been played out in the live music industry - where promoters make ticket inventory available for the artists to rake in money from the secondary ticket market, rarely has it been documented and so clear.

So it's not the first time we have covered this at EU Ticket News. Taylor Swift and Neil Diamond were also caught with wet paint on their hands last year.

Chauffeurs, the rider notes, are not allowed to “start a conversation w/ the client.” Wheelmen are similarly barred from conversing with Perry’s guests or fans. They also are directed not to stare at the backseat through the rear view mirror. Drivers should also not “ask for autographs or pictures, and especially not while driving!” Finally, Perry’s ride should be outfitted with four water bottles (presumably in the event she forgets her Sigg).

The rider also alerts promoters that they may be required to hold back tickets for concerts so that Perry & Co. can provide the ducats to “resellers” for “distribution to the public” on the “secondary market.” In other words, Perry reserves the right to pocket some of the proceeds from the sale of tickets--not made available at face price to her fans--scalped at inflated prices by these brokers.

The quantity and location of tickets earmarked for these secondary markets will be determined by Perry’s “Personal Manager,” according to the rider, which was provided to TSG by our pal Jester. (6 pages)

Among various diva-ish demands on the Perry rider, published by The Smoking Gun, was one that said promoters should set aside a number of tickets per show for the singer’s team to resell via ticketing agencies of their choice, which might include secondary ticketing auction sites. That some artists and managers tout their own tickets for profit isn’t a secret, but Perry is possibly the first high profile artist to be outed as a touter in this way. Some will argue the singer is ripping off her fans by letting her people sell tickets at hiked up prices.
