Stubhub: Fans should have open market for buying tickets

altChris Tsakalakis, president of StubHub has written a solid defense of the secondary ticketing industry in the Charlotte Observer in North Carolina, in a recent editorial, on House Bill 308 - which was left on the table.

As the N.C. General Assembly adjourned its session, it left an important piece of legislation on the table. House Bill 308 was intended to protect the fans' rights by preserving the existence of a safe, legal, secure and open ticket marketplace where fans control their tickets. Specifically, the bill would have prevented ticket sales and distribution companies, such as Ticketmaster, from controlling the sale and resale of tickets by making fans show ID at the gate to validate their ticket purchase. The bill would also have made it mandatory for event organizers to publish how many tickets they are actually selling and how many they are keeping back for their own use, so fans will know exactly how many seats are being sold at an event.

And he also urges North Carolinians to support a Free Market:

North Carolinians, we urge you to not let anyone restrict or take away your right to a free and open market. I applaud the N.C. General Assembly for tackling this issue and urge legislators to reintroduce the bill next session to protect fans' rights to a safe, legal, secure and open marketplace and allow them to remain in control of their tickets.
